The Fraunhofer IMM operates as a research and development service provider in the three business areas of energy, chemistry and diagnostics. The institute’s employees have many years of experience and excellent know-how in the areas of design, construction and automation of microsystems.

In the three R&D projects and another project within the KmR, microtechnical modules are used for the continuous formulation and analysis technology of nanotherapeutics, which support the work on solutions for the rapid screening of novel lipid and polymer formulations for successful nucleic acid transport. Optimized formulations for mRNA-based vaccines and nanotherapeutics should contribute to faster and broader availability for patients.

As part of the TherSys project, the Fraunhofer IMM is also working on theranostic systems for accelerated translation into clinical use. The combination of diagnostic and therapeutic questions is addressed here through microtechnological developments in the field of magnetic nanoparticles and magnetic lipid nanoparticles.
