The CeMOS – Research and Transfer Center at Mannheim University of Applied Sciences is the largest HAW research center in Germany and develops innovative solutions for current challenges in science and industry. More than 70 employees work in an interdisciplinary manner on five main research areas: bioanalytical mass spectrometry and optical spectroscopy; 3D cell culture models and 4D microscopy; optical measurement technology and renewable energy systems; Digitalization and virtual reality as well as industry-oriented AI and intelligent systems.

To research and develop innovative technologies, CeMOS uses its access to an extensive IT infrastructure and technology centers. As part of the project TherSys – Theranostic systems for accelerated translation – the research activities are carried out by Prof. Carsten Hopf’s working group in the Bruker Center for Mass Spectrometry and Mass Spectrometric Imaging Methods (MSI). Thanks to its many years of expertise, the Hopf group brings the unique selling points of MSI into this project: As a label-free method, MSI is not only suitable for the representation of known molecules, in this instance primarily lipid distributions, with cellular spatial resolution, but also for the discovery of previously unknown biomarkers as well as biomarker-signatures. TherSys is researching novel technology platforms for the development of nanotheranostics.

Prof. Carsten Hopf’s working group expects exciting advances in the field of multimodal imaging and digital image processing of nanotheranostics.
